Quasi-monthly update.
Howdy!
I haven't been online much the past few weeks because of the massive amounts of work I've had to do. Suddenly, though, I find my workload significantly reduced. I had a bunch of additional jobs temporarily, but thankfully I'm done with them. I was also spending a lot of time studying for the Soldier of the Month board. I had that on Sunday and did pretty well, which is great. More than that, though, I'm just glad that I'm done with it so I don't have to study as much for a while. I still have to study for Soldier of the Quarter and eventually for the promotion board when I become eligible for promotion to SGT, but that's still some time away. Now I just have my job in Officer Records, which I just got moved back to, and my job as a mail clerk (a responsibility I just aquired). I was working in the promotions section for a while and I really liked it there... but apparently they needed me here more. I work slightly fewer hours here, but I like it less. At least I have more time for PT and such.
Tomorrow I go to the weapons qualification range. I'm hoping to shoot a couple of hits better so I can wear the Expert rifle badge (I currenly only have Sharpshooter), but who knows.. I might hit fewer than I did last time. That's the problem with going to the range; you might end up with a lower score than you had before. I volunteered to go this time though. I figure the more practice I get, the better. Back at Ft. Bragg we only get to go once a year, I think.
I'm starting to think this might not be too bad of a year to get deployed. Yes, 120-degree weather sucks, but it's in the triple digits in the states anyway! I think with the heat index it's been around 120 in Illinois the past several days. Ah well, the heat is good for us. Just drink water, hooah.
I get to go to Qatar for a 4-day pass (which involves a half-day of travel the first and last day) in late August. Hopefully it'll be relaxing. They have a mall there. They have trips you can go on (like a little cruise or a sand dune-hopping safari). They have an enormous pool, which will be fun. I'm going to TRY to tan my immensly white body a little bit. Hopefully I won't get sunburned... but I probably will. But anyway, most importantly they have GUINNESS BEER. Stouts AND the big cans with the draught system in them. I'm not sure what good a tipsy feeling will do me there (I can't really carouse. I have a lady back in Los Angeles!), if I can even get that on the 2-beer per day limit that they have there. But hey.. it's Guinness. And Guinness is one of the great things in the world.
Also, Red vs. Blue season 3 just came out. I've ordered my copy but who knows when it'll ship. Can't wait to get it.. I love getting stuff.
